"Closed" gauging for chemical and refined product carriers
INWOOD, N.Y. -- Eliminating the need of chemical and petroleum carriers to use two different sensing probes, MMC International Corp. has announced the release of a stainless steel sensor capable of all three (UTI) detection functions (ullage, temperature and oil/water interface).
The breakthrough provides new efficiencies and savings for tanker vessel operators who previously had to use different gauging probes for corrosive and non-corrosive products. The new MMC stainless steel, triple-function probe can be used with both corrosives and non-corrosives and is also designed for easy cleaning and decontamination on vessels carrying multiple products.
It also meets International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements for oil/water interface detection as well as the British Approvals Service for Electrical Equipment for Flammable Atmospheres (BASEEFA) requirements for "intrinsically safe" operation. Designed and field tested for long life, the new sensor is field replaceable, being simple to disconnect and remove from the internal barrel. Insertion and reconnection of a new unit is similarly easy.
